TOUR LOCATIONS
Let Chesapeake Ecotours help you plan your next water adventure. Most of our guided kayak tours take place on Urbanna Creek and Whiting Creek, tributaries of the Rappahannock River located about 10 miles from the Chesapeake Bay. The creeks are home to diverse wildlife—from marine fish and invertebrates to birds, otters, mink, raccoons, and even dolphins. The area is also rich in Native American, colonial, and 19-20th-century history.
We offer a variety of tour locations around Urbanna, Middlesex County, and Lancaster County. Tour lengths and locations can be adjusted to fit your preferences. After booking, your guide will work with you to choose the location that’s most convenient and interesting for you.
No prior paddling experience is required. All trips will begin with a 5-10 minute safety briefing and introduction to paddling.

Upper Urbanna Creek
Launch out of Oakes Landing, once a wharf for exporting Tobacco in colonial times. Enjoy a leisurely paddle to some undeveloped shorelines on the upper end of Urbanna Creek. A variety of bird species are commonly observed in the area, including woodland birds, Herons, and Kingfishers. Otters and muskrats can also be spotted.
-

Lower Urbanna Creek
There’s no need to go far from the launch at Urbanna’s town marina to encounter a diversity of wildlife and historic sites. A few pairs of Ospreys nest here, and Bald Eagle sightings are common. You might even encounter a family of Bottlenose Dolphins! This trip includes an optional stop at a small beach. This location is ideal for sunset paddles.

Middle Peninsula and Northern Neck Locations
Middlesex County, nestled between the Rappahannock and Piankatank Rivers, is a kayaker’s paradise. The tributaries of these two rivers are endless, and we’ve spent years discovering some truly unique paddles. Two of our favorite nearby routes are Whiting Creek and Mill Creek.
We also offer tours across the Rappahannock River in neighboring Lancaster County, with paddles launching from Windmill Point and private access in White Stone—giving you even more ways to explore these beautiful waterways.
